about the artist........Anne Ormsby
Above all else, Anne Ormsby's paintings make you feel good. Simply step
into her exhibit or gallery and you'll experience the happiness
of her uninhibited artistic expression. If art is a reflection of life,
then Ormsby's life must be fuilled with an unorthodox sense of
perspective. Anne has something for everybody!
As one of this country's dominant watercolor artists, she maintains a
refreshing painterly quality, which is refined, yet unpretentious
and gleefully naive at times. Her work is distributed by galleries and
fine art dealers in more than 100 countries. Anne's publishing division,
Ormsby Editions, doubled their wholesale business again in '97 and
distributed more than 125,000 open edition prints and limited edition
giclee monoprints of 276 images to our national and international
clientele. Sixty-seven (67) percent of that volume was re-orders.
Ormsby's sources of inspiration seem to be as eclectic as the media with
which she works. She varies her subject matter with whim and ease, and
can seemingly paint anything which strikes her fancy. Her topics range
from colorful, whimsical rendering of women seen in a variety of
environments and character studies to western bronco busters. Her media
spans watercolor, pastel, ink with wash, colored pencil and acrylic. The
size formats of her work are striking. Her paintings range from 3 inches
by four inches to 3 feet by 4 feet.
To the casual viewer, a common element, other than her love of color and
humor is difficult to find in much of Anne's paintings. Her topics are
broad because her paintings reflect childhood memories of early
environments, characters, interior design styles, and on-going travel
and family experiences which have affected her. Most of her paintings
reflect her signature view looking outward with a glimpse of
water and sailing boats.
Her interiors are rendered in sign board colors with checker board
floors that rise and fall like carnival rides. Her women wear
wide-brimmed, floppy hats with silk cabbage roses, fishnet stockings,
and hightop platforms. They are bedecked in too much jewelry and wear
lots of make-up. Ormsby's women are enjoying each others companionship
and camaraderie. They seem to flaunt mores...or are they the imaginative
images of an artistic child?
Ormsby's work is in demand because of her attention to, and ability to
create, new work for the latest trends in the marketplace. She is noted
for her bright colors, whimsical titles and versatile subject matter.
Anne continues to add many new, colorful, vibrant and whimsical images
to her Ormsby Editions. Anne's work is truly unique in today's
marketplace and considered "hot" property by some of the country's most
respected licensing companies.
